Successful trial runs for ‘Veronica V’!
Our new tugboat, the in-house designed CDS4115 Shallow Draft River Pusher has successfully passed both test runs. The vessel was ordered by ‘Girona S.A. – Rio Sur Transporte y Logistica’ who needed a River Pusher to expand their fleet. Like Concordia Damen, Girona is a family-owned company, which makes collaborating easier as we embrace a similar set of values and work ethic.
Arriving at our yard in Werkendam last September for outfitting and finalising, she is now ready for delivery to Girona, a leading shipowner and operator from Paraguay. With their inland fleet they serve many customers along the 2,695 km Paraguay River and the Parana River.
Year-round operations
Indeed, the CDS4115 River Pusher is specifically designed to operate on this river system, where low water levels during the dry season present significant challenges. The new, improved design allows the vessel to operate year round, even with a draft as low as 6.5 feet.
In the past, our engineers thoroughly researched the Paraguay River characteristics in relation to desired operational profiles of regional shipowners, resulting in a proven low draft push boat of which several were delivered to Paraguayan clients. This 41 x 15.5m, 5,400 HP River Pusher is a further iteration of that design, based on in-house research, client feedback and, of course, Girona’s specific wishes.
In a push-barge configuration with 12-barges, the combination measures 281m long x 48m wide, with three Yanmar 6EY22AW engines generating 1330 kW of power each.
All in all, we are very proud of this workboat. Thanks to Girona for the smooth collaboration! Of course, we would not be able to deliver such a powerful, low draft workhorse without the support, knowledge and high-quality equipment of our partners and suppliers – thank you all for your work on the Veronica V and may we work together again in 2025.
